We love coffee in Manzanita, and fortunately the area gives us plenty of choices.
We are in the Pacific Northwest, after all. We take our coffee seriously.
You'll find longtime neighborhood coffee shops where people actually stop to ask about one another's families, newer spots where you can settle in with Wi-Fi and a crêpe, regional and truly local coffee roasters, serious breakfast, fresh juices, vegan and gluten-free choices, and more than one place where your dog is welcome to join you outside.
And because guests staying at The Houses On Manzanita Beach often ask us where we would go for coffee, we're going farther than simply listing every business that serves it. After decades of welcoming guests to our Manzanita vacation rentals, we've learned that people aren't always looking for the same thing. Sometimes it's a great latte. Sometimes it's breakfast, a gluten-free treat, locally roasted beans or simply a cup to grab before heading to the beach.
Most of this guide is intentionally about coffee in Manzanita. But Nehalem and Wheeler are only a short drive south, and if you're already heading farther south toward Rockaway Beach, we've included a few worthwhile stops there too.
And no, we don't have a Starbucks. But we do have unique, creative alternatives, with something to satisfy even the most discerning coffee lover.

Manzanita Coffee Co.
Manzanita Coffee Co. feels like a neighborhood coffee shop should. This isn't necessarily a rush-in, rush-out urban coffee stop. It's the kind of place where people take a minute to say hello, catch up and ask about friends and family.
They use a house-blend espresso from Columbia River Coffee Roasters in Astoria, with Americanos, espresso, lattes and seasonal drinks. Dairy-free choices include oat, soy and almond milk.
And don't let “Coffee Co.” fool you into thinking this is only about coffee. Breakfast sandwiches are made fresh to order, and the bakery case can include Marionberry scones, cinnamon rolls, almond croissants, blueberry crumb cake, banana bread, pumpkin chocolate chip cake and donuts. There can be vegan and gluten-free choices too, including vegan Marionberry empanadas and GF blueberry scones.
Heading to the beach or out for a hike? Grab breakfast and coffee on the way. Or don't rush at all. You're in Manzanita.

Manzanita News & Espresso
Manzanita News & Espresso has been part of Manzanita's coffee scene even longer than Manzanita Coffee Co. It's small, quirky and full of personality, in a charming building with stained glass windows set amongst tall coastal fir trees.
They serve Portland Coffee Roasters coffee, espresso drinks, lattes and alternative milks including oat and coconut. Their iced coffee uses their signature frozen coffee ice cubes, so it doesn't gradually turn into coffee-flavored water.
You'll also find bagels and baked goods from nearby businesses such as Wanda's Cafe + Bakery in Nehalem. Inside are local art and gifts, and, true to the name, good old-fashioned magazines and newspapers.
THOMB Insider Tip: Traveling with your dog? This is a cozy spot. There are water dishes, leash hookups and outdoor seating set beneath the tall fir trees.
The Spinn Manzanita
The Spinn is one of Manzanita's newer coffee stops, with a contemporary, cozy feel and sweet and savory crêpes. They serve Columbia River Coffee Roasters coffee from Astoria. The relaxed outdoor courtyard is dog-friendly. Spinn is wheelchair accessible, has free Wi-Fi and parking, and works well for families.
Offshore Grill and Coffee House
Offshore recently expanded its coffee operation into its own space next door to their restaurant. They serve hand crafted Sleepy Monk Coffee from Cannon Beach, and their chai gets enthusiastic mentions. Look for gluten-free baked goods, including Marionberry scones. There's outdoor seating with dog bowls and Wi-Fi.
Wild Grocery & Cafe
Wild Grocery has a to-go coffee counter plus breakfast, house-made pastries, fresh juices, smoothies, tea and kombucha on tap, a treat for locals and visitors alike.
Their coffee comes from Cascade Estate Coffee in Eugene. You'll find their highly rated breakfast burrito can be tailored to vegan and gluten-free, and other customizable morning sandwiches range from traditional eggs and bacon to smoked salmon, crab or peppered fried tofu. The pastry case is made in-house daily with vegan/GF labeling. Fresh juices and smoothies are organic, vegan and gluten-free.
Schwietert's Cones & Candy
You're probably going for local Tillamook ice cream, salt water taffy, or other beach goodies. But if everyone else is choosing a cone and you'd rather have coffee, you can grab a cup too.
Sisters and Pete's Coffee and Treats
Temporarily closed as of September 2026 and hoping to reopen soon. We are too. Their fresh local pies and cookies are heavenly!

poach503, formerly Yolk, is primarily a Manzanita breakfast or brunch destination. If “coffee” really means “terrific brunch and good coffee with it,” put poach503 on the list. Added benefit? Craft cocktails for your brunch and local, fresh ingredients along with Cannon Beach's Sleepy Monk coffee.
Steeplejack Brewing - Manzanita
Coffee while you're there, rather than a dedicated coffee destination. If your mission is a quick cup of coffee in Manzanita, start with the coffee-focused places above.
Big Wave Cafe
Primarily a long time Manzanita restaurant, not a dedicated coffee shop. Coffee with a meal - good ol' Cup of Joe style.

Coffee Near Manzanita: Nehalem
Nehalem is the next town south of Manzanita, just minutes down the road.
Power Market / Chevron
Sometimes the answer really is: I NEED COFFEE NOW. This is the local gas station/convenience store, not the artisan-coffee experience. But if you're filling the car, leaving early and need a hot cup plus some road-trip snacks, this is your grab-and-go option.
Porchlight
Just outside of Manzanita, and not yet to Nehalem proper, you'll find the Porchlight - formerly the Lighthouse. Coffee as part of breakfast or a sit-down cafe stop rather than a dedicated coffee run, but you can probably talk them into a cup to go.
Bunkhouse Restaurant
Also just outside of Manzanita, the Bunkhouse has been part of the Nehalem landscape for a long time. It came under new ownership around 2000, followed by a years-long remodel before reopening in 2008.
And here's a little local lore and personal memory from an earlier era. The original owners opened the restaurant in part so their kids could earn money for college. I remember eating breakfast there when hearty really meant hearty: bacon and sausages cooked in an electric skillet and muffins brought in from Costco before there was an Astoria Costco. It wasn't fancy. It wasn't trying to be. That was a different era on this part of the Oregon Coast.
Today's Bunkhouse is a different operation, but for those of us who remember the old place, there's a lot of history wrapped up in that name.
THOMB Insider Tip: When driving to Nehalem, look for the famous elk herds along the way in the pastures, or in the empty lot just after you arrive in town at the top of the hill.
For LOCAL Coffee to Take Home: Wolfmoon
This is about as local as coffee gets, and one you may not find on every Manzanita coffee list. Wolfmoon roasts artisan coffee in small batches right down the road in Nehalem.
Here in the Pacific Northwest, small, independent, handmade and creative counts for a lot. Wolfmoon isn't a traditional coffee shop where you stop for a latte. This is about the beans.
Pick up a bag to brew at your beach house, or look for Wolfmoon at Buttercup in Nehalem
The really good news? Wolfmoon is also a bakery offering crusty, freshly baked sourdough bread and cinnamon rolls for preordered pickup, Saturday and Sunday only.
And while we know this is all about coffee, we can't help but point out that their bread is on the menu at The Salmonberry in Wheeler. Wolfmoon Bread with Chevre & Honey is a treat that can't be beat!
THOMB Insider Tip: A can of coffee roasted just down the road makes a pretty good genuinely local souvenir.
Wanda's Cafe + Bakery
Wanda's Cafe is a longtime Nehalem favorite. And a big visitor favorite. You'll often see people waiting outside in the courtyard. There's a to-go coffee and pastry counter if you're on your way somewhere, plus the full sit-down cafe where you can settle in and be served.
They pour Sleepy Monk Coffee from Cannon Beach, and the bakery is a major attraction. Wanda's baked goods also are served at Manzanita News & Espresso.
Buttercup
On the surface, Buttercup is worth knowing because it carries Wolfmoon coffee roasted in Nehalem. But coffee is only part of the story. Julie, the owner, is a renowned area chef. Try her artisan ice creams with handmade cones tailored to each flavor, or one of her fabulous made-to-order chowders. Yum.
Nehalem Food Mart
Practical, not aspirational. If you're already in Nehalem and simply need coffee without turning it into an event, it's an option.
Coffee Near Manzanita: Wheeler
Continue south from Nehalem and you'll reach the quaint community of Wheeler, right on the Nehalem Bay.
Handy Creek Bakery & Cafe
Handy Creek Bakery is worth the short drive when you're looking for breakfast and homemade pastries with views of the Nehalem River.
There's a full breakfast menu with veggie omelets, quiche made from scratch, French toast and homemade pastries.
Good to know: currently open only Thursday through Sunday, so check the day before heading down.
The Roost
The Roost is a cozy Wheeler coffee spot with specialty coffee, homemade breakfast sandwiches, fresh pastries and Wi-Fi. It's also a community gathering place, with some of the same small-town feel we love about Manzanita Coffee Co. and Manzanita News and Espresso.
The Roost has tables and is an easy place to sit down for a while. If you want breakfast and coffee, need to open the laptop for a bit, or simply don't want to drink your coffee in the car, this is a good Wheeler stop.
Salmonberry
The Salmonberry in Wheeler, next to the Nehalem Bay, is not primarily a coffee shop, but coffee can be part of a larger Wheeler stop. And you can get coffee to go!
Heading Farther South? Coffee in Rockaway Beach
We wouldn't tell someone staying in Manzanita to drive to Rockaway Beach just because they need coffee. But if you're already heading south on Highway 101, there are a few stops worth knowing.
Divine Bean Coffee
A newer, coffee-focused Rockaway Beach option, Divine Bean Coffee, Tea and Biscotti Bar offers their own, blended coffee roasts. They also sell their own packaged coffee beans.
R&R Espresso
The practical grab-and-go/drive-through choice. If you're heading down Highway 101 and want espresso, coffee, a scone or breakfast without making a production of it, this is useful.
Beach Bakeshop
This one earns its place because it combines baked-in-house pastries with coffee from Five Rivers Coffee Roasters in Tillamook. Their Sand Dollar hand pies give you another reason to stop besides caffeine.
Boots n Brew Espresso
A coffee stop at the Bayocean Food Court, useful if you're already stopping at the Food Court. Think strong coffee plus breakfast rolls and sandwiches rather than a long cafe sit.

No. And somehow, in the Pacific Northwest, we still manage to find coffee. Manzanita's coffee scene is overwhelmingly independent and local or regionally connected, which is part of what we like about it.

One of the pleasures of staying in Manzanita is that a good morning doesn't have to be complicated. Walk or drive into town for coffee, pick up breakfast if you're hungry, and head back toward the beach.
