...and the Story Behind The Houses on Manzanita Beach
HI. WE’RE KIM AND ERIC BERGSTROM AND WE’RE HAPPY TO MEET YOU!
I’m Kim Bergstrom, and my husband Eric and I have built on my father’s childhood dream of owning a beachfront house on the Oregon Coast. His father worked for the railroad and learned about the majesty and beauty of the Coast through that experience. He, in turn, passed on his love of this part of Oregon to my father. After graduating from Pacific University in Forest Grove, my father finally found his own bit of heaven at the foot of Neah-kah-nie Mountain in the tiny North Coast community of Manzanita Oregon.
I grew up commuting back and forth on the Sunset Highway while they built their dream. We spent summers searching through Manzanita Oregon tide pools, jumping waves, building huge driftwood fort while climbing over swaths of rocks and huge logs, skinning my knees while learning to ride a bike, following my brothers and cousins into town to buy penny candy and comic books or an afternoon of bowling, hiking up Neah-kah-nie Mountain, and crowded around the Thanksgiving and Christmas table with family and friends.
In 1984, Eric may have made the biggest mistake in his life when visiting the beach for the first time he asked me “What’s there to do down here?” Two years later he had fixed up the house, put in the lawn during the late spring rain and married me in the new grass next to the beach on a sunny August day.
We now own five Manzanita Oregon oceanside houses. We purchased our family beach house from my father in 1996, and just like our decision many years ago to have our wedding next to the beach in what was an overgrown field, we continue to roll up our sleeves and jump in feet first.
That sad little log cabin next to the beach with tiny windows and knee high weeds no one wanted? It’s now our Modern Manzanita Oregon Cabin and guests rave about it.
The ramshackle old Reed house next to the beach that had been for sale forever because renovation was such a huge undertaking? It’s now the Historic Reed House, restored to its former glory yet updated in the places guests really like. It’s also winning rave reviews. And a bit of Manzanita Oregon history was renewed.
And our original family beach house at the foot of Neah-kah-nie Mountain my father had dreamed about? It’s our charming Oceanfront Cottage carefully updated to retain what our regular guests return year after year for – a can’t be beat location open to a fabulous view.
That dark little cottage sitting neglected for years. We found it's original bones and charm. It's become a guest favorite!
That house stuck in the Brady Bunch years? We've updated it and given it light and polish. We hope you love it too!
When people ask me about the houses, my standard reply is that they are considered charming and full of character. If vacationers looking for a Manzanita Oregon new condo experience, our beachfront Manzanita rentals aren’t a good match. But if vacationers are looking for a true Oregon Coast or Manzanita Oregon experience, whether as a couple, a family, with a group of family, friends, co-workers, or just yourself, our Manzanita Oregon vacation rentals are definitely the place to relax and enjoy a truly wonderful Oregon Coast get away.
Like many of our guests we’ve come to know over the years, we hope you also come to think of these special Manzanita Oregon houses as your very own Oregon Coast beachfront vacation homes – without all the work!
One last note. While we’ve been offering our unique beachfront Manzanita Oregon houses to our guests for over twenty five years, you may also find us on VRBO Manzanita Oregon, HomeAway Manzanita Oregon, Airbnb Manzanita Oregon, and a few local Manzanita rental websites.
