Hall-O-Nita, or trick-or-treating in Manzanita Oregon
We love Manzanita Oregon and the areas surrounding it – it’s full of caring, hardworking people. And one of the ways Manzanita shows it cares is headed up by all Manzanita shop owners within the Manzanita community – they paint their pumpkins teal!
You’re probably wondering why teal pumpkins in downtown Manzanita shows a caring community. We’re here to tell you why our downtown Manzanita Oregon shops are the best!
The Teal Pumpkin project helps raise awareness of food allergies and intolerance, and makes Halloween festivities inclusive for these kids.
It's one of our favourite coastal things to do in October in Oregon, wouldn't you agree?

According to the Teal Pumpkin Project, trick-or-treating is a much loved event, but for parents whose kids can’t simply eat anything they want, it can be a completely different event full of disappointment. If your child is exposed to something they shouldn’t be eating, the risks can range from uncomfortable to extremely serious.
While there is no way to accommodate every child everywhere when handing out treats, there is a way to accommodate the majority with the Teal Pumpkin Project!
In Manzanita Oregon, the Teal Pumpkin Project was spearheaded by Manzanita shop owner Aprilmarie Eckstrom. Aprilmarie owns the very fun Manzanita Sweets candy shop (pictured below), and more recently opened a charming Manzanita toyshop – Toylandia.

Aprilmarie decided to help make trick-or-treating in Manzanita more inclusive – a peanut-free, non-food Manzanita Halloween blast! Downtown Manzanita Oregon features teal pumpkins as a signal to kids and families that the treats being given away are peanut-free or they are offering nonfood Halloween treats.
As Aprilmarie told the local Tillamook Headlight Herald, “I know of several kids in our community that suffer from peanut allergies, so it’s always been important to me to be able to provide candy and treats that they can enjoy, too. We are very excited to be a part of the Teal Pumpkin Project which promotes peanut/nut free/nonfood options for kids with allergies.”
Manzanita Hall-O-Nita runs from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 31st. Be sure to stop on by!
