The Best Oregon Coast Breweries

Oregonians love their craft beers. And it show with the number of Oregon coast breweries sprouting up around the beach. Oregon's long time love affair with incredible craft beers has made it's way to the Coast.

And vacationers are loving our Oregon coast breweries!

Another of the most requested tips requested from our guests at our oceanfront Oregon Coast vacation rentals is where to find the best breweries in the area.

Best Oregon Coast Breweries

As regular readers of our blog and guests at our Manzanita rentals know, we mainly focus our insider's tips on the North Oregon Coast area, namely Astoria, Gearhart, Seaside, Cannon Beach, Arch Cape, Manzanita and the surrounding area, Rockaway, Garibaldi, Tillamook, and Pacific city. All are within easy driving distance. Amongst those charming beach towns, you'll find craft breweries in the bigger communities of Astoria, Seaside, Cannon Beach, Tillamook and Pacific City.

Hopefully we'll get a Manzanita Oregon brewery in the near future!

In the meantime, follow along, and we'll give you the insider's tips for these Oregon Coast breweries (listed by area - not by preference!).

North Oregon Coast Breweries

Astoria Breweries

  • ASTORIA BREWING CO. Named after Astoria's first brewery formed in 1872, you'll find them in the iconic Andrew and Steve’s Building. You'll find small eats in their tap room, or wander on over to their Wet Dog Cafe (see below). Manzanita Beach Life Insiders Tip: Try their Astoria Imperial IPA (because we couldn't suggest their Bitter B*tch IPA in a blog post)!

  • BUOY BEER Winning awards from prestigious SIP Northwest, Oregon Beer Awards and the Great American Beer Festival, to name a few, Buoy Beer is located on the beautiful mouth of the Columbia with fantastic views of the soaring Astoria-Megler Bridge, pull up a chair and enjoy the goodies from this 20-barrel brewery, restaurant and tap house. Located in the former New England Fish Co. building built in the 19th century, get a feel of this sea port's canning past in the original floors and walls. Kid's welcome. Manzanita Beach Life Insiders Tip: Be sure to taste the Strawberry Gose and Imperial Stout. Our Manzanita Beach Life reader highly recommends the Czech Pilsner.

Astoria Oregon Breweries

Buoy Beer

  • FORT GEORGE BREWERY & PUBLIC HOUSE Chances are you've heard of Fort George Brewery, Astoria's largest (15th largest in Oregon) and arguably most well known brewery. Located on the site of the original Astoria settlement, you'll find two floors of brewery, public house, pizzeria and tap room. Opened in 2007, Fort George distributes 40 varieties of beer throughout Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Manzanita Beach Life Insiders Tip: Try the Quick Wit, Orange Judas, and don't miss the oyster shooters. And be sure to stop by the Blue Scorcher Bakery next door!

  • HONDO'S BREWERY, PUBLIC HOUSE & SUPPLY Astoria’s third-oldest active brewpub. Manzanita Beach Life Insiders Tip: Double Dog and Rusty Dog are outstanding. And you can't beat free Mario Cart!

  • REACH BREAK BREWING The newest of the Astoria breweries having opened in early 2017, Reach Break Brewing is located one block from Fort George Brewery, and is currently a 7 barrel brewhouse with plans to soon expand to 15 barrels. Plans are to emphasize developing a wild yeast and bacteria slanted barrel program producing sours and farmhouse-inspired ales. Those sours won't be available anytime soon. They plan on starting with more subdued flavours such as pale ales, stouts, porters, pilsners and lagers. Open limited weekend hours. with plans to build out their parking lot for outdoor seating and a beer garden boxed in by food carts. For now, the tasting room fills growlers and crowlers. Manzanita Beach Life Insiders Tip: Stay tuned for reviews. Look for hard cidery opening next door in the same building, plus across the street you'll find North Coast Distilling’s facility and tasting room.

Cannon Beach Breweries

Seaside Brewery

  • SEASIDE BREWING COMPANY. Seaside Brewing Company is located in the100 year old Seaside city jail where, according to the owners, "Seaside's good, bad, and the unlucky were housed since the building was completed back in 1914." Their beers are brewed on site. Ironically, you'll find their taps come right out of the old jail cell that once served as the city's drunk tank.

Cannon Beach Breweries

  • BILL'S TAVERN AND BREW HOUSE. The original Cannon Beach brewery, Bill's Tavern and Brew House brews their beers on site using only the finest local ingredients. Bill's won two medals at the 1999 Great American Beer Festival still uses the same recipes and adding more to suit tastes, offering a variety of beers to please most of their guests. Manzanita Beach Life Insiders Tip: The Blackberry Beauty is a regular on their beer menu, refreshing wheat beer with a hint of berry, and the 2x4 is a ver respectable stout.

  • PELICAN BREWERY. At the Cannon Beach location of Pelican Brewing, you find a large bar and dining room with lots of seating. This Pacific City favourite recently opened a new location in Cannon Beach offering their standard line-up of award-winning beers brewed on site. Manzanita beach Life Insiders Tip: Try the Umbrella IPA. One of our readers named Steven recommends Beak Breaker, one of "the best IPAs around!"

  • PUBLIC COAST BREWING. Located in the building which was formerly The Lumberyard restaurant, Public Coast Brewing produces seven of beers and offers a changing selection of beers from partner breweries.

Tillamook Breweries

  • DE GARDE BREWING.  De Garde Brewing specializes in farmhouse ales fermented with wild coastal yeast. De Garde Brewing does not add laboratory cultured yeast to ferment their beer; they cool the wort naturally in a coolship. Their craft beers take anywhere from 3 months to over 3 years in barrels before they package them. According to one reviewer, "They serve unique beers you won't find virtually anywhere else in the US. European influences shine through. Sour beers are an option, but so are sweet beers, yeasty beers, and others." De Garde Brewing is definitely on our own "must try" list.

  • PELICAN BREWING. Just across the street from De Garde Brewing, the Tillamook location of the Pelican Brewing, the tap room overlooks the floor of their new production facility. Manzanita Beach Life Insider Tip: Take for their informative brewery tour.

Pelican Brewing among Oregon Coast Breweries

Pacific City Breweries

  • PELICAN BREWING. Three partners opened the only beachfront brewpub in the Pacific Northwest in 1996 overlooking the other Haystack Rock. And they couldn't find a better location - that alone is worth the trip. Manzanita Beach Life Insider Tip: Try the Kiwanda Cream Ale, one of the country’s most celebrated and decorated cream ales.
