The Best Kayaking Oregon Coast Style!

Want to kayak the Oregon Coast? We've got you covered

We feel the best Oregon Coast kayaking is right in our own backyard.

Follow along and we'll tell you why, in addition to letting you in on great Insiders Tips for some of the best kayaking around the coastal Oregon area.

kayaking around the coastal Oregon area

Northern Oregon Coast kayaking offers a wonderful choice for kayakers, both new and experienced. In our area, besides the Pacific Ocean, you'll find bays, rivers, lakes in addition to inlets and sloughs.

Not only does this part of the coast offer a terrific selection of waterways where one may kayak, the off-season is a wonderful time to kayak in our area, even the middle of winter!

The north fork of the Nehalem River joins the Nehalem Bay just south of Nehalem, Oregon. You can begin your journey at the Nehalem boat launch or the Wheeler Marina, which also offers Nehalem kayak rentals.

Kayaking Nehalem Bay offers a wonderful trip for both beginners or intermediate paddlers. It is a great paddle for beginners and intermediate paddlers who want to explore the scenic coastal waterways. You'll have the opportunity to see seabirds, seals and occasionally the local elk walking the shore while paddling along this lazy river.

Kayaking Nehalem Bay

Just south of Nehalem, Rockaway Beach kayaking is available on the stream connecting Lake Lytle and Crescent Lake Oregon.

You may be familiar with The Three Graces just south of Rockaway Beach. This sheltered cove is surrounded by lush green hills, and offers wonderful Garibaldi Kayaking and incredible up close views of The Three Graces.

Experienced kayakers should look at a paddle along the beautifully scenic Wilson River, starting at the Jones Creek Forest Camp, navigating the over 16 miles through the Coast Range to Tillamook. You'll find Class II-IV Whitewater along this route.

Farther south, beginners will also enjoy the Little Nestucca River in Pacific City, another gentle waterway similar to the Nehalem River kayak experience.

There are lots more wonderful waterways to kayak on the northern Oregon Coast. Check out the Tillamook County Water Trail from the Tillamook Estuaries Partnership, a handy Oregon Coast kayak map.

Ready to try your hand at sea kayaking on the Oregon Coast? You might want to attend the Annual Lumpy Waters Sea Kayaking Symposium held in October at Pacific City. This symposium is specifically for advanced beginners, early intermediates, and advanced level paddlers and focuses exclusively on sea kayaking. World-wide top coaches attend this symposium, making Lumpy Waters the to instructional destination for ocean paddling.

How about an Oregon Coast kayak tour? Kayak Tillamook is a local, experienced tour company leading Tillamook County tours. Be sure to check out their website for tour information.
