Manzanita Oregon 101: Ask Manzanita Beach Life

Have you heard of Manzanita Oregon? Or are you already a frequent visitor to our small town beach community?

Prospective guests contacting us about our oceanfront Manzanita Rentals often call with questions about our Manzanita Beach area. We've had our houses a long time -- before HomeAway Manzanita, VRBO Manzanita, and even before Craigslist reached its peak in popularity.

Lately we've been noticing many people are contacting and visiting Manzanita Oregon from out of state, even from other countries, whereas our guests used to visit Manzanita Beach from Oregon or Washington.

The secret is out - Manzanita Oregon is now one of the most popular places on the Coast.

Are you familiar with our incredible seven mile smooth sandy beach? You've probably seen it before, either passing by on a southward drive down Hwy 101. Or possible in a beautiful photograph. One of the most photographed landmarks on the Oregon Coast is the view from the majestic 1,680 foot Neahkahnie Mountain overlooking the incredible seven mile Manzanita Beach - also called Neakahnie Beach - where coastal Hwy 101 wraps around the mountain and leads to the charming community of Manzanita Beach.

It's a must see location for visitors to the North Oregon Coast.

Insiders Guide to Manzanita Beach
Beautiful 7 Mile Manzanita Beach

Visitors love the pristine seven mile Manzanita Beach sparkling white sand beach where it stretches from the foot of Neahkahnie Mountain to the north and the Nehalem Bay to the south. Even though this is a favourite destination for local Oregonians, this long beach hardly ever is crowded.

Manzanita has been a long time favourite of locals for all sorts of beach fun. You'll often find surfers and kite surfers, Stand Up Paddle Boarders and kayakers skimming the waves up and down the beach. Kites dot the blue skies and hikers are treated with incredible views of the seven mile Manzanita Beach. Check out Bahama Mama's to rent your beach toys for young and old. They stock boogie boards, paddle boards, fat tire bicycles especially good for beach riding, and lots more.

To reach Manzanita - also home to what's known as Neahkahnie Beach - you'll find the two main routes are off Hwy 101 at Nehalem Road at approximately mile marker 43 and .33 miles south at the main street of Manzanita, Laneda. Both routes head west towards the Pacific Ocean, and end at Ocean Road towards the south and Beulah Reed at the north, both which meet at Nehalem Road.

You'll find parking along Ocean Road and Beulah Reed Road which run parallel along the beach. South of Ocean Road you'll find parking and beach access at nearly every road running east west.

Hike a mile or two south from where the beach meets the Manzanita Beach main street, and you'll find the quiet you might be searching for. At the south end of the beach you'll find this southern most area, the Nehalem Spit, you'll also pass the popular Nehalem Bay State Park.

Located on the Nehalem Spit, Nehalem Bay State Park is surrounded by Nehalem Bay on the east and the sparkling Pacific Ocean to the west. Here you'll find wonderful views, beaches, a happy network of trails including an almost two mile hiking and biking path winding through scenic areas with local wildlife.

Nehalem Bay State Park can be found via both northbound and southbound Hwy 101 at the south end of Manzanita Beach, and offers a charming campground and day use area - requiring a paid day permit. In the summer you'll also find horseback riding through Oregon Beach Rides located in the day use area. Oregon Beach Rides offers guided beach and trail rides.

To the east of Manzanita, Nehalem Bay also is a popular site for locals looking for crabs, clams, and salmon. You'll find more plus boat rentals at Kelly's Brighton Marina or Wheeler Marina.

The community of Manzanita offers three grocery stores and many independent restaurants and shops. A gas station is located at the south end of town on Hwy 101.
